Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10 1949) is an American businesswoman investor and speaker. She is also a consultant, speaker writer, syndicated columnist, TV personality, author and author. In 2001, she established The Corcoran Group in New York City. The company was sold to the brokerage to NRT for $66 millions. Shortly thereafter she resigned from the company. Corcoran was among the first Shark Tank investors. She was a regular on every episode of ABC's Shark Tank. Corcoran has been involved in 53 deals as of February 2020. The most significant was a $350,000 investment that will pay for 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second of a family of 10 children, and was raised in Edgewater. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mother and also a housekeeper. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. became her father throughout Corcoran’s childhood. Her family often relied on free food deliveries from a local grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as one who occasionally drank too much and did her mother a disservice and sneer, especially when he was drinking. Corcoran was a struggle throughout her education and later discovered that she was dyslexic. Corcoran went to an area Catholic elementary school before beginning the high school system in St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. Corcoran was absent from several classes in her first year, and then transferred to Leonia High School where she was an A student.
